Lunch was at Saqqara. These pictures show how the desert starts abruptly. There is not a gradual transition, but rather the desert just starts.
After lunch we headed back to Cairo.
After lunch we spent the rest of the afternoon back in Cairo at the
Museum of Egyptian Antiquities.
This museum has the most extensive collection of Egyptian antiquities in the
world with over 120,000 items.
The
museum's Royal Mummy Room, containing 27 royal mummies from
pharaonic times, was closed on the orders of President Anwar Sadat in
1981. It was reopened, with a slightly curtailed display of New Kingdom
kings and queens in 1985.
When we got back to the hotel, our luggage had finally caught up with us just in time, as we left Cairo the next day.
