January 10 - Cairo (page 6)

In medieval Cairo, we visited an 18th century merchant's home, the Al-Suhaymi House.

We finished the day at the Khan el Khalili Bazaar which consists of many small shops and stalls packed side by side along narrow alleys for several square blocks. Founded in 1382, this is one of the most historic markets in the world. Walking down the street was like running a gauntlet with every shopkeeper trying to get you to come into their shop or to sell you something outright. They made it nearly impossible to actually shop. At first it was a bit intimidating, but then it became downright amusing. These pictures were taken when we finally made it out.
